Exercise Therapy

Dr. Aihan Kuhn

I have taught and trained Tai Chi teachers and students for almost 30 years. I have always wanted to do research studies on Tai Chi and Qi Gong, but I never had the time or opportunity.  Many students benefit from learning and practicing Tai Chi and Qi Gong; some think it is a miracle. When telling others, people ask, “What is the scientific proof?”

Dr. Peter Anthony Gryffin, PHD, did a wonderful research study of some wellness exercises, including Tai Chi, and compared Tai Chi/Qi Gong with other exercises. I was intrigued by one part of his book “Mindful Exercise,” which is “Study on the Effects of Tai Chi on Blood Oxygen Saturation.” It turns out that Tai Chi had the highest Oxygen saturation among all exercises in his research. His study also showed a higher rate of Oxygen use when practicing  Tai Chi. This explains why people feel good and better and heal their chronic ailments.

We understand oxygen is fundamental to human healing, prevention, and longevity. Qi Gong and Tai Chi bring more oxygen to the body and the brain through deep breathing, meditation, and specially choreographed body movements.  These exercises produce great healing results when dealing with chronic pain, mental fog, depression, anxiety and other emotional imbalances, fatigue, heart disease, hypertension, back and neck problems, shoulder problems, digestive issues, metabolic issues, and even cancer. Therefore, I like Tai Chi and Qi Gong, being called “Exercise therapy.”

We don’t need too many material things to live, but we must have good health to live well. We cannot live forever, but we must have a quality of life in everyday life.

In 2025, we are determined to live with the highest quality of life and keep our bodies and minds attitude to the best possible fitness. We will ward off any negative energy and keep only good energy that will help us create, produce, strengthen, and nurture. We will have a blossoming year in 2025.

Happy New Year!
