Pain Management with Natural Methods
Dr. Aihan Kuhn
We all have some kind of pain, either physical, emotional, or spiritual. Physical pain can be from arthritis, past trauma, strained muscles, poor circulation, fibromyalgia, tendonitis, inflammation, and more. Be aware that cancer causes pain, and the pain can be irreversible in some cases. Emotional pain can be from PTSD, depression, poor judgment, genetics, drug causes, alcohol, or inability to let go of past unpleasant experiences.
Some people dealing with pain use over-the-counter medication; some use prescription painkillers, some use narcotics, and some are able to deal with pain in a holistic way.
Acute pain can be managed with the temporary use of medication, and it is helpful, but chronic pain is the one we need to pay attention to. We should try to use natural methods to manage this pain because long-term use of medications may cause more harm to the body than the pain itself. Therefore, long-term use of medication is not a wise choice.
Physical pain can cause emotional pain, and emotional pain can cause physical pain, and they are like chicken and egg: which comes first? If we manage physical pain without addressing emotional pain, the pain can come back like a yo-yo effect. We will not only suffer from ongoing pain but also lose our quality of life. If we think for a moment how many years we have left on this planet, we should try to have quality for the rest of our lives. It is a healthy way to address physical and emotional pain simultaneously and use natural methods that cause no harm to the body, only gain. Eventually, minor pain will no longer affect our lives, and we will be able to see pain not as an enemy but instead as a companion, and we will live with it without negative emotions.
Here is the healthy way to manage pain:
1. Manage stress:
Manage stress with the best of our knowledge and choose whatever works. I recommend Qi Gong and Tai Chi, especially Qi Gong. It has worked for people for centuries due to the result.
Stress can cause many ailments, including pain; more than 80% of illnesses are caused by stress. Therefore, stress must be managed until it no longer affects one's life.
Stress mainly results from our reactions to negative experiences. If we recognize that negative experiences are part of life and that we don't need to react—just live with them—we will no longer see stress as stress. We will see it as a life experience. We learn from our experiences.
2. Exercise Daily:
We live in a computer world that involves a lot of sitting and immobility. This creates stagnant energy in the body, impedes blood flow, decreases oxygen in the body, and makes our bodies very tight and sometimes uncomfortable. Therefore, we must find time for ourselves to exercise daily. Moving the body several times during the day can make a difference. Qi Gong is a gentle way of opening energy channels, which I highly recommend. Try to practice "Therapeutic Qi Gong" by following the video (www.draihankuhn.com) to feel the energy changes.
3. Diet Change:
Sugar and alcohol are a big trigger for pain. Avoiding sugar or other carbs, reducing dairy consumption, and avoiding alcohol consumption can make a difference. It may be difficult for some people, but we must consider quality of life instead of temporary happiness.
Large portions of food are another danger to the body. You may not realize it now, but you will suffer later.
4. Change the Mind will Change the Health:
Sometimes, we can be negative, which is not our fault. The media constantly releases negative news, and the quality of service has declined. So many negative things happen in life and the world. Regardless of these negatives, we must focus on the positive things around us and what we are doing now.
5. Qi Gong Daily with Gentle Stretching:
Qi Gong is a wonderful exercise that assists in healing and prevention. Start with Therapeutic Qi Gong, which you can find on draihankuhn.com. Practice daily and persistently. Within a few weeks, you will see the difference. This form of Qi Gong has excellent therapeutic benefits. Deep, slow breaths and structured stretching of various body parts help open energy channels, loosen muscles and joints, connect the body and the brain, and reduce pain.
6. Using Heat Pad in Wintertime:
The coldness can make the pain worse because the cold slows down blood flow, and poor circulation can cause more pain.
7. Power walk:
It is easy to understand that a power walk can promote circulation, and our bodies need good circulation to work well. You can walk as fast as you can, but not to the point that it hurts. If you cannot walk due to pain, try other exercises to increase your heart rate.
8. Sleeping:
Good night sleeping is essential in healing. If you have a sleeping problem due to pain, use Tylenol PM at night. You do what you need to do. Using medication occasionally causes no harm. The only harm is using medicines for a long time.
Lastly, you must maintain a positive attitude and emotions in any case. No one is perfect, and no place is perfect. But we can live well in an imperfect world and be happy with our imperfect bodies. By doing the right thing and caring for our bodies, minds, and souls, we can say, "I have tried my best; I am good."
