Tai Chi, the Art of Harmony

Dr. Aihan Kuhn

For many years, people have practiced Tai Chi for health benefits. Seniors practice Tai Chi to improve their physical balance. Middle-aged people practice Tai Chi to reduce stress in life or at work, and to improve their focus. For younger generations, some want to improve their martial skills, while others seek to feel the Qi flow in their body and maintain life's balance.

Tai Chi has many layers of quality. All the benefits of practicing Tai Chi come from the harmony of the yin and the yang in the body and mind. The mind controls each movement, which is then incorporated with breath work; together, they retain Yin and Yang.

During my recent trip to China (I just got back yesterday), we had a reunion for the 50th anniversary of “Educated Young People Go to Mountain and Fields,” which Mao ordered during the Cultural Revolution. I put some of the information in my book, “A Healing Mind.”  I don’t miss the time I spent in the farmland 50 years ago, but I wanted to see the people I worked with; we did such hard work together.

On the evening of day one, we had a talent show. My friend and I performed Tai Chi Dual, as requested by an organizer. We spent one day practicing the form before the talent show and did well that evening. It is my pleasure to share our Tai Chi Dual form with you.
